About us

The Critical are about lyrically exposed stories of social politics, society’s taboos and human nature, combined with powerful vocals, exuberant guitar lines and heart pounding, adrenaline fuelled drum beats…not your ordinary band!!!
They have been building an army of fans that show loyalty and commitment to the band.

Driven by their fans, they launched their career by winning a Mercury FM competition, where they were voted for by thousands of local listeners to become the Official Breakfast Show Band. Thanks to their passion, charisma and the continued support of their fans, the group are set to release their debut album, Where Do We Go From Here on August 16th.

The Critical tour regularly in the UK and in addition to the album release, this summer sees the group travel across the country, playing at venues of their fans choosing.

Stopping off in all major cities, The Critical (aka Ollie, Chris, Paul, Gavin and Darren) will be appearing on local radio and television asking their audience where they should perform – be it in someone’s living room, office, venue or bar – as long as it’s legal, they’ll play!

How did we get here?
Having appeared in venues across the UK and at festivals including Isle of Wight; Turning Point at the Roundhouse, London; and Redfest, The Critical were chosen to perform as part of the lead up to the BT Digital Music Awards.

. They have been building an army of fans that show loyalty and commitment to the band.

Continuing to build on the support from their fans, The Critical were able to record their debut album with the help of www.slicethepie.com and the votes of thousands of users and listeners who selected The Critical out of over 1,000 bands to win financial aid. The album (which has been 2 years in the making) represents the band how they are today and the first single to be released, entitled No Composure, is the perfect introduction to the group.

Where Do We Go From Here tells a story which can be seen every day. “We wanted to encapsulate a snapshot of what it’s like to live in this country at the start of a new decade,” says vocalist, Ollie. “If you walked down the street, within a few minutes you would have walked past everyone we write about in our album. We liked the idea that you could stand in any street in any town and see the people our songs are about”.

The album title reflects The Critical as a band, who are always keen to discover where their next step may take them; but also raises the greater question that everyone needs to take time to stop and ask themselves every once in a while.

For The Critical, Where Do We Go From Here is a milestone and a signpost, leading them to the path that will follow this album.
